PERSONALITY
Jackie comes off as a young man who is a little mature for his age. Well, a little too mature. At first glance, the young man can come off as quite rude and dismissive. Which,
isn't exactly wrong. The rudeness, he doesn't ever truly intend. Not in most cases. However, the dismissive trait is intentional in most, if not all accounts of it being displayed. As he currently is, Jackie is driven. Another trait of his is his intense determination and disregard for those who are aimless and have no real goal in their lives. Big talk coming from a kid, he is told way more than he could really fathom, but could anyone really blame him? Now, this is not to say that Jackie is immediately rude and quick to give the cold shoulder to every soul who encounters him. No, quite the opposite. When engaged, Jackie is the first to offer a warm greeting and conversation. His primary objective being to get to know those he meets, as they could probably be a future ally! However, it is his tendency to not smile and disregard those he deems unworthy of his time that gives the impression that he is generally unpleasant at all times. As people are, he acts differently around specific people. Around his family, Jackie is a lot more warmhearted and prone to smiling. Even if he doesn't want to, somehow Jon, Jessie or Mary end up making him smile and laugh. However, it is only his family and very close friends who get to see the youth smile frequently.
Around friends, as previously stated, he does smile. Just, not as often as one would think. He does enjoy the company of companions and actually isn't opposed to friendships or relationships at all. It's just that he desires friends and a potential partner who relates to him on his goals. Close friends, who come in very few numbers, do get the privilege of seeing Jackie smile almost every minute of every day they spend with him. It does take some serious patience and time to crack his tough exterior though. Of Jackie's close friends are local adults in Viridian City, as well as other trainers who have long since moved from Viridian and off to foreign regions such as Johto and Hoenn and elsewhere. So, in short, Jackie lacks close friends who are around his age. Now, strangers. Strangers are a completely different subject in behavior. Jackie, as stated prior, is dismissive and refrains from responding to them; Depending on how it is they approach him. Easy approaches will be replied to. But, obnoxious and loud newcomers are given a chilly shoulder and ultimately told to buzz off if they persist.

HISTORY
What could be said about a sixteen year old in the expansive world in Pokemon?
Well, the beginning is a good start. Jackie Ren Hartley, born to Joey and Maya Hartley. His mom and dad two trainers back in their day before giving birth to him and his siblings. Joey being considered an Ace Trainer and Maya a Breeder. Though, she alternated between being the non-combative type and a battling Breeder. She couldn't exactly make up her mind! While the both of them did not make it that far in their careers as trainers, Joey and Maya did encounter each other and fall in love after months of bickering and random encounters. Thanks to that, they eventually tied the knot and settled down in Viridian City.
Now, Jackie was the first of his siblings to come forth. Born in the hot summer, Jackie began his days as the average baby. Bubbly,
smiling all the time and constantly giggling. Nothing of utter importance occurs during his early years, thus leading us to his early school years. Specifically his time in the first and second grade. During this time, Jackie had begun to learn about Pokemon and the idea of battling with them. Competing to be the very best and climb the ranks of trainers into the place of Champ. To a child like him,
it was like a super hero story. Starting from humble beginnings and ending as a huge figure. This was what initialized his burning determination to be a great trainer. It was also during second grade that Jackie was given his brother and first sister, Jon and Jessie.
Fraternal twins! While most kids would've hated the shift in attention, Jackie didn't mind at all and even contributed to taking care of the newborns alongside his mom and pop.
Moving forth, Jackie enters the sixth and seventh grade. Nothing of importance occurs during the third through fifth grade. During the sixth grade, Jackie has begun to get serious. More than he was before. Because of this, Jackie ultimately alienated himself from his peers for obvious reasons. However, during this point in his life, he is not as bold as he is later on. So, for lack of better terms,
he still deals with the annoyances of kids his age. During the seventh grade, Jackie becomes enamored with the idea of traveling his home region. However, he doesn't take the time to learn the lay of the land and this comes and bites him in the butt later on his life.
Speaking of this, this event takes place during his time in the eighth grade. Feeling quite bold, Jackie ventures off into Viridian Forest. Wandering too deep into the bug-infested zone, he became lost and went missing for what felt like years...but was actually a few hours. Unfortunately, it's during his time of being lost that Jackie encounters many creepy crawlies with no means of protecting himself. And close run-ins with Beedrill and Weedle who just so happen to be a little too agitated that day left the youth with a slight fear thereof Bug types as they were the ones who attempted to sting and poke him with their stingers and spikes. Jackie is eventually found, and scolded by two concerned parents, and continues on with his life. He is left with a large disdain for Bug types now, though.
During the tenth grade, the Hartley household introduces one more baby to the family, Mary. A healthy girl, Jackie isn't the only one taking care of her as Jon and Jessie take turns babying her and playing with her while Jackie studies and learns everything he needs to know about becoming an official Pokemon Trainer. As of current, the eleventh grade, Jackie has decided to embark on his own Pokemon journey!
